Joanie Calem, Musician, singer/song-writer and teacher, Joanie has happily been teaching music, both privately and to groups, and performing in family programs, since 1983.
She began her work as a piano teacher, after studying both conventional piano pedagogy methods and the Suzuki system. She soon realized that children's natural response to music was through their bodies, and asking them to sit still is suppressing a natural instinct.
She went back to school to study pre-school music and movement-based learning systems, focusing on the Dalcroze and Orff methods. Both of these methods encourage children to move and create and explore their own body rhythms while they are learning music. Her general approach is "child-led", i.e., creating programs drawn from children's natural interests and developmental stages.
She lived overseas for 22 years, and moved to Columbus with her family in 1998. She continues to teach piano privately, and is a known children's performer around the Columbus area, providing family music programs and teaching movement-based music appreciation programs at a number of locations.

Lori Candon, RYT, Yoga Instructor & Grief Recovery Specialist, Lori’s purpose in facilitating yoga classes is to support inner potential of all students. Her approach to teaching incorporates different styles of yoga and offers a safe and supportive playground where students can experience and connect to their own inner essence. Her philosophy is to have a conscious approach to negotiating different options that aid in the balance, well being and overall health of mind/ body and spirit.
Lori began practicing yoga 5 years ago and this journey has taken her to deepening her understanding through classes and workshops and, most recently, graduating from ShivaShakti Synthesis, a Yoga Alliance approved 200-hour yoga teacher training.
Lori also facilitates Grief Recovery Groups. This is another way she fulfills her commitment to supporting the inner potential of each being.
Those groups will be beginning in September.

Ananda Columbus Jack Byrom and Doug Smith (often joined by Geoff Quinn from Cincinnati) lead the Sunday service. Jack and Doug have both been meditating and practicing yoga for years. In 2003, Jack and Doug both were initiated into the sacred art and science of Kriya yoga (through the direct line of yoga initiation going back to Lahiri Mahashaya of 19th-century India) by Jaya Helin, a direct student of Swami Kriyananda. Jack has also spent several weeks in residence at Ananda yoga centers in California and Rhode Island. Geoff Quinn of Cincinnati is a long-time meditator and Kriya yogi and resided at Ananda Village in California for years. We find these yoga teachings to be practical, scientific, and inspiring. This path draws from the abundant ancient wisdom of India (the sanatam dharma) and utilizes the science of raja yoga.

Janice George, Yoga Instructor, Since 1988 Janice George has been committed to bringing yoga to the people. Janice is one of the founders of the Center for Wholeness and she currently is director of the Wellness Project with YWCA. She has completed training at Kripalu and with Integrative Yoga Therapy in the Professional Yoga Therapists program. She has also studied other schools of hatha yoga and other branches of yoga.
As a psychotherapist, Janice emphasizes a mind/body/spirit approach to yoga. In hatha yoga there is a concept called the Koshas, the five sheaths or layers of our being ö the physical body, energy body, emotional body, wisdom body and spirit body ö and this belief system has helped to guide her choice of schooling and approach to teaching.
"Yoga can offer a safe place to explore our "stuff" in a non-judgmental way and to play with ways of interacting that are more in-line with our true selves.
I believe that whenever we take the time to explore and heal ourselves we are also healing all beings and this sacred earth."
She offers weekly classes, including a specialty class for women only, and, through Integrative Yoga Therapy, a Yoga Alliance approved yoga teacher training.

Racquel Miller Graham, Yoga Instructor, A yoga student since 1975, Racquel Miller Graham has been teaching for over twenty years, as a movement therapist and yoga instructor. She is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor, studying regularly with the Iyengars in India, with a B.S. in Physical Education and Dance and an M.S. in Sport Psychology.
Developed over the past fifty years, by Sri B.K.S. Iyengar, this method of yoga emphasizes precision of alignment in the poses to nurture muscular and postural balance. Particularly unique to the Iyengar method is the use of props (walls, blocks, chairs, etc.) and individualized adjustments to facilitate healthy alignment and movement in postures.
Iyengar yoga is spiritual practice in physical form, and the absolute attention to precision and alignment give great depth, taking practitioner from the physical body to deeper levels of being. Alignment or “right action” learned in the body expands to alignment of “right action” in how we live (through practice of the yamas and niyamas) and finally alignment with our true nature. The yoga practice is truly transformative, aligning the student with inner divinity.
